Dr. Cassandra Vieten on Using Exercise to Improve Mental Health

Beyond Theory, a podcast from Meadows Behavioral Healthcare, features those on the front lines of mental health and addiction recovery. “For anxiety, it’s best if you exercise, but you also [need to] monitor whether or not it’s causing more anxiety … Can you find types of exercise that are not anxiety-provoking?,” asks Dr. Cassandra Vieten, a licensed clinical psychologist and executive director of the John W. Brick Mental Health Foundation. “For example, adding tai chi, qigong, some of these down-regulating types of exercise … [or] being outdoors might be more helpful for someone who’s anxious.”
