Leah Gizzi
Leah Gizzi is Program Coordinator of the John W. Brick Foundation. She recently graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminology. Throughout college, Leah took advantage of many volunteer and internship opportunities in both in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation centers for substance abuse and mental health in South Florida.
Through this work, she gained knowledge of the ins and outs of mental health and substance abuse treatment. Leah worked with therapists, operations, administration, staff, and clients during her time working at the facilities, where her desire to change the way mental health is treated grew daily. Leah also worked hands on with clients as a group facilitator for recovery and treatment.
In the Fall of 2021, Leah began an internship with the JWB, where she worked as part of the nutrition research team. Throughout her studies, Leah was heavily involved in multiple non-profit organizations and volunteer opportunities, such as an organization titled The Home Team, that provides mentors to at-risk youth in south Florida. As well as JumpStart, an early childhood consultation organization that aims to provide a larger volume of childcare providers to promote emotional development for children, and create less job-related stress for teachers in Miami-Date county.
Through experiences, Leah has fostered a prominent passion in changing the way the world treats mental health. She believes in the whole-body approach to treating mental illness, and is excited to be working with the John W. Brick Foundation to promote healthy lifestyle choices, such as mind-body practices.
